Choosing a Medicare Plan — 5 Key Points
- Medicare has 4 parts: A (hospital, usually free), B ($202.90/mo + 20% coinsurance after a $283 deductible, higher if IRMAA applies), C (Medicare Advantage, bundles A+B+D), and D (drug coverage, a 3-phase cost structure capped at $2,100 a year). Figures shown are 2026 amounts.
- There are two ways to fill Original Medicare’s gaps:
- Medigap (Supplement): pairs with a standalone Part D plan; higher premiums (roughly $100–$250+/mo) but low out-of-pocket costs and the freedom to see any Medicare provider nationwide.
- Medicare Advantage: bundles everything into one plan; low or no premium (roughly $0–$75+/mo) but more cost-sharing and network restrictions (PPO/HMO).
- Plan G is the go-to Supplement for new enrollees, since Plan F closed to new members in 2020. You pay just the Part B deductible, then little else.
- The right choice depends on you — your health needs, prescriptions, provider preferences, and county all matter. There is no one-size-fits-all answer.
- Working with a local independent agent costs nothing extra — Noble Health compares all the carriers we offer in your county and stays with you through enrollment and beyond.
